Vultyr - 2001 - Monument of Misanthropy

This is Finnish Black Metal band Vultyr's debut album. Presented here are eight tracks of grim Black Metal including an intro. The soundquality is very necro and dirty, reminding me somewhat of that on Transilvanian Hunger. There's a nice '90ies feel to this release. The drums are a bit in the back of the mix here, apart from the snaredrum for some reason, with the guitars and vocals dominating.

Musically this is raw Black Metal, with a twist, sounding at times like a more necro version of Panzerfaust era Darkthrone, with some seriously groovy tracks. The vocals are reminiscent of Nocturno Culto and a bit of Satyr, but grimmer and with a very eerie and haunting twist to them. This is something that just has to be heard.

If you're into early Gorgoroth, Darkthrone and the likes you'll certainly enjoy this album. Vultyr features members of Azaghal and Wyrd.

Standout tracks are "Evil Coming Winter" and "The Spectre and I".

Perisynti - 2006 - Hiilenmusta Lammas

Out of Finland comes this interesting horde with their first fullength. Eight tracks of mid-paced to fast
Black Metal in the finnish tradition is what's presented on this disc. The music is very catchy for being so uncompromising, with really good riffs and varied drums and a Death Metal feel to it. This is very riff based Black Metal, with an extreme driving force in the guitars. This reminds me of Darkthrone's Panzerfaust album.

Handling the vocals is the man behind Muinainen Ruhtinas, Krimn V., which obviously is what the
vocals here remind me of, as well as Sin-Nanna of Striborg. Raspy and not your typical highpitched Black Metal vocals but definitely not less angry. There is no mistaking that this is from Finland, since there is that harsh edge only the finnish language can bring.

The soundquality is extremely good and just right to get the nuances of the music and the vocals through. The production is more bass oriented than most Black Metal releases. The focus is on the

vocals and the guitars, while the drums are not at all your typical Black Metal drums. Very refreshing.

Standout tracks are "Turmeltuneen Ihmisen Luonto", "Kuin Hetken Hurme Hangella Hohtaa", "Hekuman Sarvet" and "Hiilenmusta Lammas".

Necrovomitör - 2005 - Vomit Porn Satan

Out of Finland comes this thrashing Black Metal band with their first five track demo. Mid-paced Black Metal, in the vein of Dødheimsgard's Monumental Possession is what we get here, which basically describes it all. Even slightly groovy, at times.

The vocals remind me of those done by Aldrahn on Monumental Possession and those by Grendel of
Blodulv with some slight Satyr of Satyricon at times.

The production is harsh and a bit chaotic, which fits the music perfectly. What you hear in the mix is mostly the filthy sounding guitar, the vocals and the drums. There's just such an amazing raw power and aggression to this demo. My only complaint is that the demo feels a bit short. Limited to 150 copies.

Standout tracks are "Genuine Crackwhore Mutilation" and "Rotten Corpses in Vogue".

Muinainen Ruhtinas - 2006 - Tuskanvuorten Valtaistuin

Out of Finland comes this one man project. We are presented with three tracks of mid-paced Black Metal and an outro. There's some serious catchyness to this demo, without being too melodic, similar to the way Horna and Isvind can be quite catchy at times. This is a side project of Krimn V, the vocalist of Perisynti, another band well worth checking out.

The vocals remind me of those on the classic Kvist album For Kunsten Maa Vi Evig Vike, and a less raspy version of those on Isvind's album and of course Perisynti.

The music sounds like a finnish version of Isvind I would say. You have the finnish sound here, no question about that, but with a slightly Norwegian feel to it. Add to that a slight bit of Bathory and you have a quite interesting mix.

The soundquality is somewhat towards the murkier kind with a sound that really does remind me of Isvind's Dark Waters Stir album. The vocals are at the front of the mix followed by keyboard and guitar, with drums mostly slightly at the back, but still quite clear. The keyboard is used to set the mood, so this is not some symphonic kind of thing. Tape limited to 666 copies.

Standout tracks are "Henkien Helki" and "Korpit".

Devilry - 2006 - Muslim Genocide 7"

Out of Finland comes this Black/Death Metal horde with their latest offering. Presented on this 7" are two tracks, an intro and an outro. The music is mostly fast, with a lot of grind. Some similarities to Goatlord Corp. can be found in the music, as well as some Fuck... I'm Dead, Disrupt and War (Swe).

The vocals are rather Thrash inspired, only deeper and darker, with growl added at times. Reminding me of those by Nacht formerly of Goatlord Corp. and Seth.

The production here is rather good, but perhaps a bit thin, sounding similar to the Death Metal productions of the early '90ies. All the instruments can be heard in the mix. Both the tracks on this 7" are actually quite good.
